This starts in 1940–kind if fun to see!

Same here—who ever heard of Rice Cream????

They must have made their choices based on various parts of the country because lots of these were popular in California in differnt years than listed. I've never had Rice Cream but might like it since I like Rice Pudding, in fact I like all of these except the mincemeat thingies. My dad liked mincemeat but my brother and I, not so much. What a fun lookback, thanks Karen.

Thanks. What a fun list. Never heard of rice cream or tomato soup cake.

Some yummy desserts...anything with chocolate. Others did not look too appetizing...anything with jello.

Yuck ... nothing in the early 1950s appeals to me. No wonder I'm not much for desserts.

Some sort of salad made with coconut, sour cream, mandrin oranges...that was 60 years ago...and I can't remember the name!

I've made Tomato Soup Cake all of my adult life, it's a weird ingredient but makes a delicious cake. There are lots of recipes for it but I always use Campbell's tomato soup since it's the perfect flavor for this one IMHO. Penny, we call it Ambrosia or just simply Fruit Salad in my family. I make it with all types of fruit, fresh and/or canned. The coconut depends on who likes it and who doesn't but it's usually on the table for holiday meals of all kinds.

Yes, Ambrosia! Just for holidays too!

Tomato soup cake is VERY good. I have made it for many years and our kids ask for it all the time. It is really a great spice cake with cream cheese frosting.
