It was in one of the summer issues. I made several and found them very easy, if rather small (I tend to carry everything but my desk in my bags!).

You can always use two placemats
http://groups.msn.com/Nanapennypockets/baxtersmom.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7607 I bought a black leather flower to dress up the bag then used it on vacation - it was big enough to carry Bella in.

Those straw coloured placemats trimmed in black came from Walmarts.

hi shirley, I really like your placemat purse...did you sew the two short ends together (zig-zag stitch?) and also did you add a zipper? Thank you!

Yes I just lined the short edges up but first I installed the zipper - I also lined it and added a zippered pocket. Before I installed the zipper I inserted pieces of grosgrain ribbon to hold the handles - I also sewed in rings to clip a strap onto. Then I stitched the sides - wrong sides together with button hole or quilting thread cant remember but strong thread and just straight stitched the sides. After the handles were on I hand sewed them in place since they were just the rod handles.
I used this bag on a 3 week trip to Montreal and carried my dog in it - the strap of the bag I also used for a lead for her. The lining was made from black cloth napkins.

Forgot to say - make sure your ribbon tabs are long enough if you are planning the straight across wood handles so that you can get your fingers under it.
