So, if you can touch the soleplate to a balloon, the soleplate must not heat. What you have is a steamer in the shape of an iron.
I have a Rowenta steam generator and find that the soleplate does not get hot ENOUGH. The iron functions like a traditional iron w/temp control, etc., and you NEED heat there, too, if you want to iron. Steam isn't all there is to sewing, pressing or ironing.
That steam generator is wonderful and much, much better (and much less work) than a traditional iron, but take away the heat in the soleplate and there's no way that those altar linens would be crisp and perfect and there's no way that 100% cotton muslin dust ruffle would be wrinkle-free and there's no way those 100% cotton batiste christening gowns would be perfect.
Finally, there's no way you could work w/starch w/o heat in the soleplate.
I can't see paying $200 bucks for a steamer. Y'all enlighten me, here.
