I don't know of any links, but have you tried a search here? Be sure to specify "Search All Forums". Also, try both "pintucks" and "pin tucks".

Good luck.

I would suggest that your hand done puntucks be corded and that you have the fabric lightly drawn flat and sucured, Make the stitches accross the bottom of the cording as precisely back and forth as possible with an extremely tiny straight stitch on the front of the fabric forming two parallel lines taking pains not to catch ithe cord in any stitch and then when that is done, draw up the entire line and press or steam. If you draw it up a stitch or a few at a time you can tell where the break was on the finished garment. I've also made hand done pintucks using two threaded needles alternating and found this made it easier to draw up but a lot more work too; I would recomend that you do this only if the fabric is dense or thick. Please let us all know how your project turns out.

Oh, sorry, forgot to include that you should use a fine and flexible but strong thread and slender hand sewing needle. I've had good luck with wonder thread which is a nylon filament some people call "invisible" and it comes in clear or smoke colored that blends with your fabric. I did these once with rayon thread and I think you could also get away with using thread meant for lingerie if you can find any of that these days. Anybody who knows of a scource for lingerie thread please let me know.

Whipped or plain sewn tucks? By hand for plain, I like to use a very small needle (#12 sharp works nicely) with very fine thread (100wt), and a thimble, so I can "rock" through the fabric and load up a good lot of stitches onto the needle at a time. This gives a much smoother finished tuck.

I have on a nightgown for myself. Done in colors, even pail ones the pintucks look a lot more casual or sporty. For something that takes so much precise detail I don't know if it's something I would invest the time doing by hand. Just a thought.

Marilyn - my husband bought me this magnifying lens for just this type of situation - it clamps on to my table top and has adjustible thingy between the lens and the clamp like some positioning lamps have - it really makes hand work sooo much easier. One thing that I have to remind myself is to cover the lens when I am finished so that I dont set fire to my table. I had it set up one day at the kitchen table which gets the morning sun and was working on smocking a little dress - of course it was all new to me so I had my A-Z of smocking book etc etc all on the table with me - left it to go do something else then remembered that the lens was still exposed (it comes with a pouch that you slip over the lens and has pull strings)

Shirley, I am beginning to have trouble seeing the teensy stitches I am trying to make these days and have been wondering about a good large adustable magnifying glass that would be out there to purchase. Do you have a brand name, or the source where one could buy one? Also what is the approximate cost?

I use magnifying glasses that attach to my regular glasses. I use fine but strong thread and take tiny stitches, loading up my needle as I go - kind of like quilting.
