I did an Ayrshire Bonnet !!!
Author: NanaPennyPockets

Have been working at learning Ayrshire embroidery and finally just finished the bonnet for the Christening Gown!!! So exciting! I have the lace done for the sides and hem - and now get to start on the center panel of the dress. That won't get to be as detailed as I'd like because the baby is due around Thanksgiving. But the learning has been so much fun!
http://groups.msn.com/nanapennypockets/nanapennypockets.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=11770 and the following picture. I do hope MSN will let you take a peek at it!

My special thanks to Laura Thompson Jenkins - who gave me such wonderful help!

If you haven't tried this type of embroidery - do! But must warn you - it's very addictive! lol!

Love, Hugs, and Prayers,
NanaPennyPockets

Sew beautiful! Very nice job. I don't think I would ever attempt anything like that by hand. I don't think I have that much patience. Beautiful!

Wow! Nana the bonnet is beautiful. Your stitches are so even. Good luck with the rest of your project. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Happy stitching. Gita

Nana that is beautiful!!. i am gong to make mind the easy way -- or at least I hope easier. I purchased her CD for making Ayrshire bonnets. It is one of the next projects on my list. It seems the nieces and nephews are always having babies these days. I always have a christening outfit in progress. Would not even think of attempting it by hand.

Gorgeous!!

gorgeous bonnet! Is the back of the cap of the bonnet (I think there's a technical name for it??) hand-embroidered as well? It's really lovely - and I love the simplicity of the design for the bonnet. It just begs for pretty embellishment. Great job, Nana!

Thank you all for the lovely comments. And yes - the back is hand embroidered also. I basically started with a blank piece of satin batiste and went from there. It's also hand sewn together. Great fun learning new techniques! And have improved both my internet and sewing library in doing research on it, as well as improving my embroidery skills.

Thanks, Nana, for the answer - the whole thing is stunning, and I love the fact that it's entirely done by hand! What an accomplishment, and great inspiration for the rest of us! Lucky baby who gets it - it'll be a fantastic heirloom!

Beautiful bonnet. There are no ties on an ayrshire bonnet? Seems safer.

O! I want to see the picture!! It could be my company server blocking - will try tonight at home.

I love doing whitework and I would LOVE to learn the particulars of Ayrshire! Nanna - did you use a particular book or books??? Take a class from Laura?

I'm doing some Mountmellick now which is very similar but each is a little different. I think the Ayrshire is somewhat finer??? I have Laura's machine embroidery CD for the Ayrshire bonnets and have made a couple but really want to learn and do the handwork!
