 Kit leftovers

Help! Once you finish the project from a kit, how do you store the leftover thread, needles, silk ribbon, extra fabric, directions, etc.? Up until now, I've been keeping the leftovers in the original package but I think there must be a better solution. I'm trying to organize my sewing room. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm a big fan of plastic ziplock bags in all sizes. You can fold or cut up the original picture of the project and store it in the bag with the leftovers.

I usually take the kit picture, directions, etc. and they go into a 3-ring binder I keep for just such things. The leftover lace, thread, whatever just goes into regular stash - thread goes into the thread place, lace into the lace drawers.

Ditto Barbara's details, break things down and binder the instructions.

EXCEPT: when it is a kit of my own. Each class has its own binder. I put all hand drawings, notes, scribbles, swatches, skeins of floss or fiber etc in the binder in plastic page protectors. That way I can remind myself exactly what I was thinking as I developed a class.
They aren't pretty but they sure do the job ;)

Not only that, Maggie - but a friend was asking me about copyright issues in regards to a pattern she was publishing and if you keep all of your sketches and notes as you're developing the project or pattern, then if there ever IS a copyright issue you've at least got a little something to back up your statement that it is an original design.

;) EGGGG_ZACTLY!

I keep every single sketch, even if it is on a table paper from a restaurant.
One lesson was drawn on dr.'s table paper from when we were waiting for one of MissEm's many visits. You just never know where inspiration or clarity will strike, lol.

I also keep pictures of sweet babies people have sent with their little ones in my garments.
I print out words of love and encouragement and put them in the see through covers.
Yes, my binders are less than perfection and that is perfectly fine with me!
