 Yo-Yo flower directions (7-2009)
Author: Suzanne Stoldt
Date:   07-04-09 10:08

Good Morning!

I am behind in viewing Marths's PBS show and LOVE the baby quilt she had been featuring!

Unfortunately the show featuring how to create the large blue/purple flower with raised middle had been deleted before I had a chance to view how to make it.

Can somone please be so kind as to post directions as to how I can make it?

Thank you SO much!

Sincerely, Sue

Sue

I just this minute saw that show, it's on at 11am pacific time here in the Seattle area. She did not explain how to make the big purple flower on that baby quilt. She called the purple flower a yo-yo with scallops. She did explain how to make the smaller flower yo-yos which were yo-yos that you made without turning the edges in so you have the frayed edges in the middle when drawn up representing the center of the flower. Really would like to know how to make the big purple flowers on that baby quilt. It was adorable. Kathy

Dear Kathy,

Thank you SO much for you reply! I fell in love with the flower also, and was hoping to recreate it!

Your post was such a great help and I am going to try it this weekend!

Thank you again for taking to time to answer my post! Please have an outstanding rest of the weekend!

Sincerely,

Sue

The directions for making yo-yos are also found in "The Art of Manipulating Fabric" by Colette Wolff. This book was published in 1996. You will see every kind of fabric manipulation you've ever heard of, and some you haven't. There are all kinds of tucks explained and good photographs of godets, all different kinds of pleats, flounces, different kinds of smocking, etc. It is available at www.amazon.com.

I've borrowed it from the public library, but I really wish I owned this book.

check out Nancy Zieman's catalog. She has a yo-yo maker that makes flowers. I don't know if it's the same as Martha's because we don't get the show here in New England. Bummer!
