Are you talking about the sort with velcro swatches to make the wrapping of a Baby Burrito easier?

:)

Hit reply too fast:

http://www.babyslumber.com/swaddlingblankets.html
Has a good diagram of how one sort of swaddler works; looks like a little foot pocket, one short "arm", and one long "arm" that wraps all the way around twice.

Another on the same page has the footie pocket, then two shorter arms that overlap the shoulder/body.

Same site, another, more detailed diagram--there are two little arm flaps inside, too.

Another style with diagrams, which might be pretty easy to "wing" at home.

A PDF document with a basic swaddling blanket, plus wrapping instructions (free pattern!)

Wow Elizabeth, you made me learn something new today. I mean I didn't know that there was actually a style of blanket for this. I just always thought that those nurses in the hospital just knew how to make a regular blanket do this and I was all thumbs. Maybe if I would have had one of those kind of blankets I could have done this. lol Boy, it has been to long since I had a little one around. I need a grandbaby really bad here. lol

Nurses take a magical "Baby Burrito" class, I think. :) We had an extended stay in the hospital with our last (4 days... erg!), and as we were the only family on the OB floor, and Baby was in the nursery for observation most of the time, we got to chat with the nurses alot, and they showed us the tricks. :) Yes, swaddling can entirely be done with regular receiving blankets... we didn't have anything other than the regular ones, and did learn the trick of it. You have to have a compliant baby. :)

lol I was in the hospital 10 days with first, 8 days with second and only 5 days with last and not one time did any of the nurses show me how to do this. lol With that many days in the hospital, I could have become an expert. lol

Just in case someone else follows this thread . . .

I bought a pattern for a swaddle blanket online. It has wings; no velcro. It is extra long with an elastic bottom so you can change diapers without having to unwrap them. It also has covered slits for using your carseat with your baby still wrapped.

http://www.makethemyourself.com was the site I bought it from.

LOL! - sooo many years ago back in the olden days when you actually stayed in the hospital after birth . . . I was in for 5 or 6 days with my first and was shown then how to swaddle with a regular receiving blanket, as well as how to bath, clean, feed, swab, trim and tweak - all sorts of baby care lessons! None of which are shown today when the new mommies pop, drop and run! My first was so happy swaddled but the others after were not - it's definitely a baby personality thing, I think. I'll have to cehck out these special blankies.

My youngest is 15 and I was only in the hospital for a couple of days but was blessed to have an "experienced" ...lol...nurse that took the time to show me the blanket trick. The younger nurses couldn't do it worth a flip. My little one loved to be wrapped tight and would kick up a fuss when the nurse didn't wrap him tightly enough. I ended up showing one of them how to do it like the first nurse...and this was my first delivery! I look back now and realize just how lucky I was. He loved to be swaddled, hated a pacifier and slept through the night at 5 weeks. Now he's 15 and I guess he's making up for being such a good baby.
