 Wild Ginger?

Do any of you ladies know anything about Wildginger? I saw a demonstration at a local craft show here in UK today, it was software called wildginger, from which one can custom fit sewing patterns.

I read the thread regarding Lutterloh system, and am interested. But having seen the ease of the wildginger software I am more inclined to chose that.

It costs £120GBP which is quite an outlay, you buy extra CD's for children, men and celebration patter fitting. each cost £60GBP

I have looked at their website, and tried the demo, but would be interested to read if any ladies out there use it.

I have the Wildginger softwear for Men cos my dh is very tall and built like a rugby prop. I found it easy to use once I had got the right measurements inputted.

I also like the fact that I can cut and paste pattern peices to save paper. Mine was bought about 5 years ago and only makes the pattern pieces and not the instructions on how to put the garment together so it is not like buying a Simplicity pattern and following the steps - you just get the pattern peices.

I would only buy it again if it was for someone who is not standard size.

Claire, I got mine about five years ago and it has sewing instructions in a separate file. You can view them onscreen or print them out.

Sandiemae, I have all of their programs except Celebrations. I used to hand-draft patterns so this was a new experience. I wouldn't say it was easy, but I am very hard to fit. Obviously, I really like their product.

With Wildginger, you receive 3 monthly updates (at no extra charge).

Chris - you say 'I wouldn't say it was easy........' what isn't easy?

The man said nothing about pattern instructions, I would assume they would be the same as a conventional pattern - i.e laying on grain, marking darts, etc.

ClaireUK, you say 'once I got the right measurements inputted', was that a trial and error experience?

Sorry to keep asking questions!

Thanks for the info on the sewing instructions - wow, can you see me blush???

The right measurements problem was dh wriggling and not following instructions - you know what men are like with instructions LOL.

Sandymae, getting a perfect fit wasn't easy for me. Having said that, let me tell you that I am very picky when it comes to fit. I have never had a commercial pattern fit me properly and I cannot buy cloths off the rack that fit to my satisfaction. I used to hand draft patterns and so I knew what kind of fit was possible; I just didnlt have the time or patience to do it anymore. My hand-drafting experience didn't make the shift to computer drafting easy either. Although the design principals are the same, the interaction of the numbers is often quite different.

So you see, getting a fit that was acceptable to me was not easy, but much of that was my own doing. The software itself was easy to use and the technical support is great. Once I actually got the fiit issues figured out, I was a very happy camper. I'm sure I pushed Karen Campbell patience to the breaking point, but she was always responsive and helpful. If they can satisfy picky little me, I think they can satisfy just about anyone. If you would like to write me privately, my address is good. Just notate MP board in the topic line and don't send attachments.

I won Wild Ginger's Pattern Master Boutique at a MP Sewing Market several years ago. I have small children, and therefore limited sewing time, but have been very happy with the few things I've made with this software.

They have a message board that I've also found very helpful... it seems that correct measurements are the hardest part. Once you get those down just right, you'll be set. I didn't have trouble with the measurements, but with picking the amount of ease I like in my clothes. Although I have sewn for about 40 years, I needed more instruction than what was offered, so I purchased the book that WG (Lisa in particular, I think) suggested - Reader's Digest Book of Sewing (or some similar name). It was found easily at my JoAnn's and purchased with a 50% coupon.

Thank you all for your input, I am mainly interested in the childrens package - I have a 2yr old grand daughter and a 7month old grandson, it would be great to sew non commercial patterns, designed especially for them. I would also be interested in the womens boutique, I don't think there is anyone who is 'standard', although I would regard myself as a GB size 14, I need longer length underarm to waist, and small adjustments like that.

I did learn to make my own patterns, but as one gets older shape changes, I thought that with the computer package - it is just a case of keying in new measurements, and hey presto......the new fit!

Unlike the Lutterloh system, Wildginger prints out the full size pattern - thats a plus for me.
