 Victorian Corset
Author: Pattycake

I want to make a couple of new Victorian outfits to wear during the "Step Back in Time" week in Silverton, CO in June. I ordered my patterns from Truly Victorian, and am anxious to get started. After lots of reading on their bulletin board, I learned that a corset should be worn in order to get the "Victorian look", so I ordered a corset pattern. You can see it at this link: http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/catalog/lm100.html

Have any of you made this corset or one like it? Apparently, I need a grommet setter which I have been unable to find at the local hardware stores, Home Depot or Lowe's. I'll have to order one. Eyelets are not strong enough for the lacing. If anyone has any suggestions or tips to make this easy, I would appreciate it.

I'll bet our own Miss Elizabeth can help you with many of these questions (although I don't recall if Victorian is "her era"). If she doesn't answer on this phorum soon, you might ask again on the machine sewing phorum. She is an invaluable resource for authentic period clothing, as are several other ladies who frequent these phorums.

I'm here! I did answer on the Machine Sewing section, as I saw it first there. :) My era focus is 1840-1865, but I do move forward and back somewhat in the overall "Victorian" era. It's fun!

Pattycake,

I saw her post and am so glad it worked out. Is Elizabeth a great resource or what?! We're so lucky to have her and so many others on these phorums.

Now y'all are making me blush. :)

I'm glad to help where I can. I've always admired Martha Pullen (and the ladies on this forum) for their generous nature, and I'm happy to emulate that!
