 elastic for slip
Author: E.E.

I used to make all my slips. However, it has been a very long time since I have done this. I'd like to do it again, but don't know what currently is the most professional way to do the elastic at the waist. Anyone know? Also, what is the best lingerie resource online? My old supplier is out of business.

I really like Jan Bones' techniques for elastic. She has several methods depending on your preferences and weight of fabric. She may still have her book on her website. If not see if you can find it second hand as it is basically OOP. It is called Lingerie Secrets.

Her patterns are extremely well thought out too. There is a new one I saw in Puyallup that is not on the website yet (not last time I really looked anyway) for nightwear with bias sleeves, and the seam is not the typical underarm seam and is therefore more comfy.

Not affliated... just a fan!

Thank you. I am looking for a resource for the colored lingerie elastic. I would love to learn the techniques.

Mizlilly, I really like the look of her patterns ... do you remember the name of the bias sleeve nightgown? She has a couple of patterns on her site, but I'm not sure if it's what you're talking about.

Sorry Carol, but I don't remember. Almost bought it too... GB won the door prize and got two of her patterns, but I'm not sure if she got that one. I may have it in my notes. I will look and post later. Sewing room is a bit of a mess :) The notes may be visible... or they may be buried! You could always send Jan an email... very nice lady and great teacher!

Newark dressmaker supply offers a product called underwear elastic in black or white in two widths.

I tried emailing Jan @ Sewinglingerie but it was undeliverable. I wonder if she's still in business. Mizlillie, were you in Puyallup recently?

Carol, I was at the sewing expo in Puyallup just this year for the first time. What a great time I had. I'm afraid my sewing rooms are a real disaster. I took a quick look and the folder didn't jump out and bite me so I can't check my notes. But I plan to clean up tomorrow or Friday at the latest, so I will be sure to post when I find it. Sorry your email didn't go through... I am sure her email was on the handout... which of course is with the notes and buried in here somewhere! Jan is definitely still in business. She is scheduled to do four or five seminar type things at the Toronto show in a few weeks.

Carol, the pattern you're asking about with the bias cut sleeves is called "The Bias Cut Lingerie Jacket". I don't see a number on the pattern (I was the lucky winner of two of Jan Bone's patterns at the Sewing Expo). I was also quite impressed by the way she's designed the sleeve. It's quite nifty!

Her email address on the pattern cover is: jbones3@shaw.ca and her website is: sewinglingerie.com

Thanks! That's a different email address than the one on her site. I'll try again.
