Some of you may remember me; I really haven't fallen off the edge of the earth. :-) I've been focusing my attention on my quilting, rather than my machine embroidery. I *really* must remember that I can use my machine embroidery to MAKE labels for my items! duh! :-) One of Mr. Pirate's nieces recently had a new baby. I finished a baby quilt for her and *remembered* to embroidery a label! Dang, I feel accomplished! :-) The original design came from Designs by Cuties at http://designsbycuties.cuteembroidery.com/4477308/ BUT, that design has the word "lovely" inside and also has a very wide inner border. Using Embird, I removed both the word and the inner border so I would have more room for label verbage. As you all very well know, freebie designs are a cr@p shoot ... the ones from established digitizers are usually wonderful; the ones from hobbists are .. well .. you take your chances. This one is *fantastic*. Beautifully digitized. One of the flower elements is outline stitched. Outline stitching on embroidery machines can be very tricky. Depending on how they are digitized, the fabric you are using, the stabilizer you are using, how taut you hoop your fabric ... all contribute to how the outline stitching turns out. I've had my fair share of horribly outline stitching .. but this design? Gorgeous! In fact, this design came out *so* wonderfully, that I stitched out several more for future use; they are just that good. In addition to the embroidered label, I am trying to remember to also sew in my "pirate tag". This is a teeny-tiny skull-and-cross bones that I got from SewForums ... sadly the design is no longer there. This skull-and-cross bones is only about 1/2" and fits nicely onto a ribbon, which makes up my tag. Below is the label that is in the quilt that I made for the new baby. (oh .. I see you can only upload one picture per message, so here's a URL to see the additional (blank) labels and the pirate tag). and *just in case* the picture doesn't embed correctly, here's the URL for it: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2247/5727262531_8d122755c0_z.jpg additional (blank) labels: the blue oval: http://users.value.net/pirate/machine-embroidery/2011-05-quilt-labels/blue-oval.jpg the red oval: http://users.value.net/pirate/machine-embroidery/2011-05-quilt-labels/red-oval.jpg the variegated oval: http://users.value.net/pirate/machine-embroidery/2011-05-quilt-labels/variegated-oval.jpg and the pirate tag (from the quilt): http://users.value.net/pirate/quilting/2011-05-madeline-baby-quilt/pirate-tag.jpg
