Some of you may remember me; I really haven't fallen off the edge of the earth.  :-)   I've been focusing my attention on my quilting, rather than my machine embroidery.  I *really* must remember that I can use my machine embroidery to MAKE labels for my items!  duh!  :-)

One of Mr. Pirate's nieces recently had a new baby.   I finished a baby quilt for her and *remembered* to embroidery a label!  Dang, I feel accomplished!  :-)

The original design came from Designs by Cuties at http://designsbycuties.cuteembroidery.com/4477308/  BUT, that design has the word "lovely" inside and also has a very wide inner border.  Using Embird, I removed both the word and the inner border so I would have more room for label verbage.

As you all very well know, freebie designs are a cr@p shoot ... the ones from established digitizers are usually wonderful; the ones from hobbists are .. well .. you take your chances.

This one is *fantastic*.  Beautifully digitized.  One of the flower elements is outline stitched.  Outline stitching on embroidery machines can be very tricky.  Depending on how they are digitized, the fabric you are using, the stabilizer you are using, how taut you hoop your fabric ... all contribute to how the outline stitching turns out.  I've had my fair share of horribly outline stitching .. but this design?  Gorgeous!

In fact, this design came out *so* wonderfully, that I stitched out several more for future use;  they are
just that good.

In addition to the embroidered label, I am trying to remember to also sew in my "pirate tag".  This is a teeny-tiny skull-and-cross bones that I got from SewForums ... sadly the design is no longer there.  This skull-and-cross bones is only about 1/2" and fits nicely onto a ribbon, which makes up my tag.

Below is the label that is in the quilt that  I made for the new baby.   (oh .. I see you can only upload one picture per message, so here's a URL to see the additional (blank) labels and the pirate tag).

and *just in case* the picture doesn't embed correctly, here's the URL for it:

Thank you. I really like what you were able to do with the design. Your pirate label is adorable too!

Mondamee ... I don't have a webpage up for the baby quilt yet but do have 2 excuses why not!  First, it was only mailed today and want it to be a surprise to the family.

Then ... this baby quilt, along with a number of OTHER quilts that I've finished more-or-less recently, also needs their webpages made.  I've been more in the mood to either piece tops or quilt the quilt .. but not sit in front of the computer for webpages.   I've yet to figure out how to multi-task all those activities together!

But, when the page goes up, I'll remember to get back to you. :-)

Shelley,
My son and daughter-in-law have been living in Walnut Creek since last August.   Unfortunately, they may be moving on to another temp job (for my ddil) before we get out to visit them there.

Very nice label...and made even better with the matching binding on the edges.  I often put a small binding on my labels, but never thought to tuck them in to the corner with the quilt binding finishing two of the edges...very clever technique!
Looking forward to seeing your webpages when they are ready.

Shelley, it's great to see you back on the forum. I have looked at your site for inspiration several times. I always think of the 1000 pyramids baby quilt you made and its sad story. Your work is wonderful, as usual! I love the way you did the label. Looking forward to seeing more of your quilts when you get them posted!!

Thank you, to all, for the lovely, lovely comments!   I have to confess that my embroidery machine doesn't get to live on a table all the time; I just don't have the room.  When it does get put away, I tend to forget about it for long periods of time.  Hardly an excuse, I know.  :-)

LisaSewCute ... how gracious of you to remember the memorial baby quilt!  It *was* a very special quilt.  I was honored to have been able to make it.

Roxann ... I've always sewn my labels into the corner of the binding.   The label I usually use has a narrow black border all around it and I use that border as a line to tuck the other two edges under and hand applique the folded edge to the backing.  It wasn't until I used the machine embroidered labels (which don't have the black outline) that it occurred to me that a narrow strip of the binding fabric would finish off those edges nicely!  Feel free to steal the idea. :-)
