Sample for a class I'll be teaching at our local Joanns, that will include how to make self piping and insert a zipper in the pillow back. Just used fabrics from my stash, the 'lace' was cut from a valance found at a flea market sale, I think ... I've had it for a while. Too bad there's no room in my place for a blue pillow! It will end up as a gift I suppose when the classes for this one ends. I'm scheduled to teach it in November, December and February.

Very creative use for "leftover" lace! I love it!

Very nice, hope your classes go well. That's a perfect way to make some extra money during retirement.

What a gorgeous pillow!!! I love the fabric you chose to go behind the lace...it really
adds to the look. And how fun to teach a class! You'll be a great teacher and your
students are blessed to have you.

Thanks for sharing this little beauty!

By the way, I have quite a collection (hoard ; ) of vintage lace curtains and lace
table cloths that I've recycled into beautiful sewing projects. They make lovely
pillow covers, as Lynn made, and I've used them for single door curtains too. I'm about
to use a lace curtain panel on a purse.

One special old tablecloth I've saved for years is destined to become a skirt for
a special little girl's dress. So many possibilities for this lovely old lace.

Kudos to those of you who had the foresight to get these priceless items when you found them. What a treasure trove you have now.

Trying not to get frustrated by the fact that no one signed up in November & December ... I get it that we are all sewing like crazy for holiday gifting and hoping that everyone has more time to sew come February.

It's a lovely pillow! I think December wears people out. Will the Joann's have fabric appropriate for this project? Nice way to upcycle what we aren't using.

Yes, the Joann's that I am teaching in is one of the large floor plans - they were once called Etc. Lots of home dec to choose from. The purpose is for participants to think outside the box. I think I will make another one, with very different fabrics/trims just to show how the same steps can result in something unique to each.

Lyn, I'm anxious to hear how your class went. The ladies were very blessed to be able to
take a class from you. Did you have a good turnout?

Lynn, We must have been posting at the same time....I didn't see your last comment. If the
sign-up wasn't good this time, I'm betting it was because the ladies who frequent this store
don't realize what an opportunity it would be to take a class from you. Do you have anything
displayed at the store for them to see...as inspiration?

The pillow seems like a good choice for beginners especially, and I think it's lovely and unique.
So many trims and even vintage materials would showcase well on this pillow. I'd love to
take a class from you.

One thing I've noticed about the Joanne store near me, is how much the focus has changed
to what seems like more crafting and less sewing. A shame, I think. Lately, I've been wishing
I could find someone locally who teaches couture sewing. There used to be a shop offering
very high end fabrics, and I signed up for a coat class (that focused on couture techniques)
but life interrupted and I wasn't able to attend. Now, I don't hear of any sewing classes being
offered anywhere near me, and wish there were.
