What you should be looking for is `Cluny' lace. It is a heavier lace used for decorating priests' garments, linens etc.

Thanks for all the tips on where to look -= I remembers the Luc the lace man place... no white in the wide enough.

Now any ideas on a pattern.... years ago there were costumes in either or all of the big four pattern books for an altar boy type... in those days if memory serves me it was white over a red cassock in the pattern books.... since I would like to make some for the altar servers as well as for the priest any leads on tracking down an adult as well as a teen pattern...

I get so ticked off when my FABRICLAND sends me emails of a pattern sale..... hurry in wont last.... Butterick $5 or Vogue patterns for 7.49 and then I get email from Joanns or Hobby Lobby who no longer ship to Canada its us not you was the way HL explained it.... for $1 for Butterick or McCalls or Simplicity patterns.

Shirley, could you use the Butterick patterns I sent you a few years ago for the priest? I will check Joann's tomorrow for boys patterns.

Yes it isn't the cassocks for the priest thank you Luzemia but the surplise patterns ages ago there was a set in the big 4 that had an altar server set soutaine and surplise shown red soutaine /cassock with white surplise over - it was marketed as Halloween costume and I have no idea what size it went up to but they showed a 10 year old approx.
our own parish had some sets made - have no idea but the surplice looks home made they are way too short...in the body part
I found one on either etsy or?? it was a size small... well for one thing the altar servers have to make their first communion and here that is pretty much grade 2 tail end of grade 2 at that and so I am thinking the kids who were interested would start training for altar servers grade 3... but we have many Asian and Filipino kids they look hardly old enough to be in school let alone grade 3 they could pass for 5... But then we have an Asian girl who is Eucharistic minister etc and she comes Saturday sometimes straight from work... in medical attire so she is in her 20s yet could pass for early high school. Most of the altar servers are about 11 and good size kids...

Shirley, I found a pattern in Butterick for childs choir robes but nothing in Simplicity, McCalls, Vogue, Burda, New Look, or Kwik Sew. Can you use an old one that is in use now and trace off a Pattern?

Shirley, I put Altar boy Cassock in a search on EBay and 2 came up. Rest of the page was a lot of nothing related. Not sure if they're what you're looking for, but maybe you want to check. Didn't look at sizes.
