Can anyone tell me when Niagara Falls tourist season starts?? We are talking about either flying into Toronto or Buffalo. We have already warmed up in TN. into shorts and crop pants. The nights are cooling off a tad. We are unusually warm for this time of the year. But I will take it!!

Well, the official planting seasoning is said to be the May 24th weekend. Which means you shouldn't get frost after that. But, we got married June 10th and there was a bad frost that night and a friend, who was a market gardener, lost a lot of his crops because he wasn't home to cover them up and protect them from the frost.

It's really unpredictable... April can be hot, May unpredictable, and June can have cool days. However, I'd say your best best would be early to mid June. Make sure you take one of the boat rides...Maid of the Mist from the US side, Hornblower on the Canadian. And do come over to the Canadian side...view is different, and you can go in behind the Horseshoe Falls for a fantastic experience! And a visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, and have a meal there and a walk along the river below the falls. Beautiful! Lots of wineries on the Canadian side too that do tours and have tastings, if that interests you, and a butterfly garden too. Enjoy!

Hi JR,
As a transplant from Western NY to TN, The falls should be seen in two seasons! First in warm weather, & also in winter when the falls are lit in colored lights & frozen in time.
For sure go to the Canadian side as some of the views are the best.Be sure to love all the flowers that are nurtured & lush from the mist. While there, visit the floral clock, butterfly exhibit
(be sure to wear bright tops to attract them) also the hummingbird habitat & do look for the 'black squirrels' in the park nearby. There are all kinds of souvenir places as well as other
museums a little further away from the falls. Goat island ( on the US side) is another neat viewing area & do look at the American falls as well. If you're so inclined- Niagara Falls ( city of)
does have a casino & when DH had to work in the area, the company he was at took him there for lunch. I was told the food was good. Have a very large memory card for your camera as
you will be blown away by the sheer volume & power of the water as well as the beauty. There are several 'walk out' type overlooks on both sides of the falls to get a neat perspective.
Niagara On the Lake is another place to visit. AAA will have lots of tourist info too. Have a great trip!!!

We went to Niagara Falls in 94, Katherine was a senior in hs and Kimberly was in college. It was the middle of August and very warm. We did do some of the tourist attractions
but I'm sure it has really changed. My husband did business with a company in Toronto so we decided to make it a family vacation. Which is very rare for us. Cheerleading was our summer
with the girls. Thanks for all the help!!

I posted a response for you - but it seems to have disappeared! I agree, mid-June is a good time to visit - not quite so hot, usually.

I live so close to the Falls I can see the mist from my back yard...we do LOTS of tourist-trips with family & friends as they visit. Be aware, if you have a rental car that parking at the Falls is controlled and expensive.

I agree also that you must do the Hornblower trip, and the Butterfly Centre, and visit Niagara-on-the-Lake. NOTL has lots of boutique shops, good restaurants, many wineries, and even a horse-drawn carriage ride!

Flying into Buffalo gets you closer to the Falls, and a drive along the Niagara Parkway is fun. Flying into Toronto means you are about 2 hours from the Falls...but if you want to see some of Toronto as well, that is a good option.

Do call if you get to the area and if I am at home, maybe we can meet - even if only for lunch!

Grammie to 10 darlings, ages 6 to 25 years plus 1 step-darling (she is 15)! Mom to 5, ages 47 to 54!
