And, I had fun doing it, after avoiding getting hooked for decades, I might be getting the bug. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the Rail Fence - the youngest granddaughter - 7 1/2 - who lives locally got involved with this one and could barely contain her excitement to be sewing on grandma's fancy sewing machine (my old D1). The kit is from Maywood Studios. The flannels were a delight to work with - so soft and plush.

So pretty! Sounds like a fun time and what wonderful results! You can practically feel the softness of that flannel. Yikes, I sound like a Charmin commercial. And just why won't that persnickety mamma bear let the papa bear squeeze the Charmin? Come on, what's it gonna hurt? Like the next bear in line will insist on a new roll 'cause the other one's been squeezed?

Thanks all. I have a summer's worth of garment sewing ahead ... and then perhaps, I'll do more dabbling into quilting.

You've definitely inspired me - I'm going through my flannel scraps to see if I can find enough to make a flannel rail fence myself. Thank you!

I've pieced my flannel rail fence quilt top and am choosing the backing and batting. Lynn, did you use a batting in yours? California is so warm I usually just use 2 layers of flannel but think I'd like a little "pouf" to this one. I'm planning to ditch quilt and also wonder about the best thread to use for this. Any suggestions?
