Every once in a while my Babylock Ellure won't sew a stitch after
I've removed the needle plate and cleaned underneath it. When I
put the plate back on, and resume sewing I get a bad birds nest.

The last time this happened, I set the machine aside and started using
my old Janome 8000 and was about to take the Ellure to the dealer
when I gave it one more try. It worked. Took off sewing like there
was nobody watching ; ).

This must have something to do with how that needle plate sits,
but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Has anyone ever had
this problem before? Do you happen to know the magic to put
the plate back on perfectly perfect?

I need the pinstitch on my Ellure. And will have to do this by hand
if I can't get this figured out real soon. Thanks in advance for your
help!

I have Babylocks and I have had the same problem. It was User error. When you take the needleplate off, you need to replace it in a specific order. If you don't, you get thread nests like you describe. Every time. Very frustrating. I can never remember the order. If you go to you tube, my local Babylock dealer, Brad, has a video specifically walking you through replacing the needleplate. If you search Brad and Sew Fair, I think that will get you to the video. He has many Babylock videos posted.HTH Rosie

I have an Ellegante II and a Destiny II. Have never had this exact problem. However, if the needle plate isn't put back correctly, my machines won't work - AT ALL. Would rather have that happen, than risk damage to my machines.

Rosie, thanks for the link. I watched the video but didn't have time to double check the
order I put things back together, but I will.

Just got home from a lesson on my Babylock Coverstitch machine, and the dealer who owns
the store had the exact same advise for me. Sure hope that solves the problem because
it's frustrating as all get out. Who would think a little thing like that would cause so much
trouble!

Rosie,

I can't believe I forgot to post about this, but you were spot on with
your adivse! Came home and tried that, just like the video you mentioned,
and it sews just fine again.

Hard to believe something so minor as that would make such a big
difference...but boy it does. I saved that video, in case I forget the
right sequence again when I clean. Thanks so much!!!

So glad that worked for you. I had been used to sewing on Pfaff machines and could not figure out why the order of replacing the needleplate would be so critical. The terrible thing is I can never remember how to do it since I don't do it often enough. Thank goodness Brad posted such a good video on YouTube. Rosie
