Hi, I'm new here. I've smocked before, but it's been a while. I'm doing a baby dress. I have it pleated. I'm trying to block it, but the pleats are going every which a way. They are not even rows of pleats. They look crumpled & in disarray. Should I start on back smocking & just try to straighten them as I go? Or is there a trick I should try while it's still pinned down to the blocking pattern? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Tish. Most of us here do not block a bishop, we just tie it off. Maggieb gave us lessons many years ago. http://maggiebsmocks.typepad.com/smocking/2008/03/how-to-pleat-a.html Are you using a plate that is designed for a bishop. If so, you will see the first stitches in the design do not have a lot of give but the bottom ones do. After finishing, it will fan out and it will be perfect. If you need more help, just ask.
