Okay--so we just got a new car--and since we always name our cars, this one is Emma because she is EMerald green metallic. The doors open just fine if we park the car and the truck "just right" in our garage. But, to help prevent any accidental door dings, my sweetie thought we should figure out some way to protect the side of the car when it's parked in the garage. I searched my stash and found the "perfect fabric" for Emma! LOL I used Soft and Stable with batting on the front and back of it--so it was a thicker cushion--and I draped a pattern piece to fit over the mirror. And this is what I came up with:

No smirks here, my goodness, you've created a pretty AND practical project to solve the frustrating problem of door dings. I'd use one in any parking lot too if I weren't afraid someone would steal it. I'll bet there's a market out there for something like this.

What a fantastic idea! You're probably not interested, but I think you're really on to
something here! Door dings in garages are a problem for many people...just sayin,
I think these would be a big hit if you decided to sell them.

Yours is pretty too, as well as functional.

Brilliant and cute too. My CRV is The Mermaid. It's colour is like the warm ocean bluey-green and the swoopy design lines and Sarah dubbed it The Mermaid. Alas, no way does it get in the garage. Once we get our renovations done...maybe. We're going to see if we have enough height to put the Miata and Mustang on a lift for the winter...and with a lot of organizers and all there is just the tiniest chance I can put the Mermaid in there for the winter...
