Dear ladies I just found out that my middle aged son, Patrick, is at the stage of kidney disease where he's going to have to go on dialysis and the donor list. I'm sick with sadness.

There is nothing quite like the pain we feel when our children suffer. God grant you all peace and strength.

Prayers continue for your son and all who suffer...some good news - I have a neighbour who has been on dialysis for many years and is doing very well. It is an inconvenience and scary, but can provide the needed support until a donor is found. Praying a donor is located soonest.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. Grammie, I'm glad to hear of your neighbor's success with dialysis, I don't know anyone who has or had kidney disease and the internet is so iffy on the subject so it's good to hear personal experience. I've had a week to get used to this so am pretty much out of the sadness pit and focusing on how I can support him through this. He's in the medical field himself so will know all about the best place to get treatment, etc. so that's a blessing right there. I would appreciate continued prayers for him and his family, I know it's hard on my ddil and dgd and dgs.

Prayers that they can find a donor soon. We know of people who have lived full lives on dialysis for years as well. Aren't we fortunate that the medical technology exists that makes it possible?!

Praying for you both. It's so hard to see our children suffer regardless of their age.

How is Patrick doing?? read a strange health report that fat cells can be used as stem cells - in that case you could grow your own replacement organs... advances are being made.... years ago and I do mean years when my sister was dealing with all the various cancer surgeries one of her long time friends would go to medical oncology appointments because she was fluent AND she had just been through that with her own sister Shirley... it seems that Shirley had bladder cancer... they grew her a new bladder in the lab - I am guessing that they removed the cancerous bladder and she had some kind of external collection system until after chemo etc then she had surgery to reverse that years after 1st cancer appearance and they implanted her replacement bladder... that had to be 15 years ago.. Praying for great outcome for your Patrick

Thank you for asking, Shirley. He has been going to the kidney doctor every month for awhile now and is almost at the dialysis point, actually any time now. My ddil told me that none of the family has a match to donate a kidney to him but there is a convoluted system where you can donate a kidney which will be used for someone else and that facilitates your loved one getting a kidney sooner. I hope I understood that process correctly but I might be wrong on the sooner part. Patrick is a Physician Assistant working in a hospital and has access to all the latest info on kidney disease so I'm confident he's well informed. I think I saw something about those stem cells from fat too not long ago. I hope this can eventually help many people recover from organ trouble. We've known Pat has kidney disease for a long time but I always hoped lots more time would pass before it affected him in this way. Please continue in prayer for him.
