I thought this pattern from ASE would look pretty on the black velvet dress I made for my granddaughter for Christmas Eve...very dressy and elegant. But, when she tried it on, she looked like a pilgrim!! I’m selling the collar on eBay. Lol. It’s really pretty. I used Judith Adams design. It took 250 antique glass beads, silk organza to support the smocking, and soft embroidered net lace. Not sure if I’m posting the right way. I can never get photos right. I’m trying photobucket.

Is there any way to download from my iPhone directly! Using the free photobucket is a pain.

Bare with me. I’m still learning how to use flicker from my iPhone. Here’s a photo of the smocking close up.

Absolutely beautiful. It would be perfect on a winter white dress. No way I could sell it if I had put that kind of work into it. It would even be pretty framed and hanging on a wall. Your smoking is lovely and that lace is exquisite.

Thanks for the compliment. I’m happy I finally figured out how to post pictures (I’d done it before but I forgot how). I’ve written it down step by step in my notes!

As far as selling it goes.. I really don’t think people are into these smocked collars anymore but you may be right about a winter white dress. Interesting. I might think about making a winter white dress for Easter. No one has looked at it yet. Lol.

Hi MoDo,

I’m selling it on eBay. I have a price of $25. Free shipping. If you want to look at it there, just put in a search
“Smocked collar English netting lace”. It’s the same photos. There so many darling smocked dresses on eBay.

Also, if anyone still has an old Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazine, the directions and photos are in issue #29 1994. It’s a Judith Adams design. Back in the day, you could order a kit with everything included for $39.

Lucinda, that collar is absolutely beautiful, a treasure as well as a collar. So glad Modo is the happy recipient, I know it will be appreciated in her family.

OH I love that collar it is so very very elegant..... I am so sorry that it didn't work out for the black velvet because that surely would be a great combo...
I am seeing this on a tall very slender rail thin person... my sister could have pulled this off - her 2 shorter sisters would have looked like pilgrims but that black velvet ivory netting is to die for.

Oh my goodness, I sat here gazing at it for a while. We may not see many collars like this
these days, but then when did we ever see an abundance of collars so elegant and,... well...,
expensive looking! It's absolutely stunning.

And MoDo....lucky you!!! I can hardly wait to see the special dress you create for it. Can
I help you brainstorm? Fun fun fun!
