About 2 years ago when Gwendy did her reversible bags I bought a black one reversing to caramel brown then I bought this burgundy suede one reversing to burgundy leather
Perfect my winter parka is burgundy - knitted burgundy long mitts and a hat - made some white ones and a scarf and thus far thank God no winter - we have not had snow for weeks and may get 0.6 millimeters on Wednesday and a bit more about the same Thursday.
So lacking the courage all this while I never touched my black bag... but when I bought the burgundy suede one I decided to take it apart - make a template for a lining - put in a big zippered pocket and while I was at it embroider it and put in some hardware to attach my keys and the zippered
case for my cell phone. Now I am about to deconstruct the black bag - already have fabric for the lining and fabric for the zippered pocket etc.

Just WOW! Shirley you are so brave - and so capable! I wouldn't know where to start...but that is one lovely bag. Can't wait to see what you do with the second one.

Grammie - I took the black bag apart... embroidered it - same initial but beigey gold embroidery - really you cant get to crazy with stitch intensive design or you might just perf out the embroidery from the bag leaving you with a hole.... I love the stitch out wish my black bag was suede leather... but it isn't.
Need to cut out the lining and then attach the other side of the zipper from the pocket -
It is so easy to put the bag back together.... really just need leather needle and it is like going through butter... Walmart bag and my store restocked them so not out of stock... for embroidery just need new needle to start - 2nd bag used same needle it is just my Janome 500e single needle embroidery only machine. About 6500 stitches for the S

What a lovely bag, Shirley. I don't think I would be so adventurous to try the reconstruction, but you did a great job. The embroidery is so pretty. Thanks for sharing.

So sophisticated and practical. You've done a great job, Shirley, I predict many years of use from these lovely accessories. What kind of needle did you use for the embroidery? Also, I've seen instructions suggesting a teflon foot for sewing leather which might be useful when putting the bag back together. Or did you find you didn't need one after all?

Those bags are fantastic! I'd be praying too if I were to attempt it too! Love the font you used. I'm especially fond of that suede bag's color.

I love it! I embroidered on some suede leather and made that into an exterior pocket on one. That was easy to do. I really enjoy it, but you inspire me, Shirley. Maybe I will do another and make a lining w/pocket for it.

A separating zipper would have made the pocket easier. Next time

Beautiful, Shirley! It's always scary trying something new, but as you discovered, it's usually easier than you feared.

I love everything about your bags. I bet you have been thinking about this project for awhile, aren't you glad you took the plunge and got it done? And your "S's" are perfectly straight. That is always my fear when working on something that there are no do-overs. Your pics are very inspiring.
