Hello, Ladies!

Just wondering: Is it better to clip the bobbin jump-threads on the back of machine embroidery or just leave them?

I usually clip on unlined things. Anything 1/2” or so I’d leave...even 1” depending on the wearer. You don’t want anything that might catch a finger, and for a baby that is quite small. But don’t trim too close or your threads will come undone!

My machine clips the bobbin threads at about 1/2" for me, so the only thing I worry about are the jump stitches. Then i follow Mizzlilly's guidelines.

These are 12-1/2" squares for a quilt, so no chance of any fingers getting caught.

I have a Babylock Destiny2. It can automatically cut the top and bottom threads when traveling or changing colors. i stopped using that function because it made big, hard, scartchy lumps of thread on the back. Every time it move to a new location or did a color change , it'd take 6 tack down stitches and again when it changed colors. I can't reduce the number of stitches it takes when it starts a color, so I fast forwad it for 4 stitches to reduce the lump problem. I was so disappointed that it did this.
