Well....I wanted to get myself a present last night...
and went up to the local Rite aid store....they had little
to nothing ....so went over to the magazine section....

and they had Quilt Magazine

I am NOT a quilter...sewing a stright line throws me for a loop

anywho....there was a placemat in the magazine...and I thought I would
try it out....even had the pattern in the pull out section...great I thought
until I got the magazine home and found out I had to enlarge the pattern...
still not sure I did that right....

so....I thought ummm....Easter colors would look good...and put a bunny
in the center...
pretty Easter looking.....Nah....fabrics from the stash said ...
Fourth of July.....

and this is what popped out of my morning sewing....
not bad...I do admire all of you who can quilt...quite a process to be sure...
and I doubt if I will ever get the hang of it...

then I did not want to mess it up....so went and digitized the star in a circle
to finish it all off...
will look ok at my Fourth of July bar-b-que in the summer...

whew.....lol.......

WOW you cant sew a straight line and you dont quilt and you made this?? I cant believe it? I made a little summer hat for Emily it was size 6 months and it was all those tiny little segments like your placemat - ewww I hated that but the hat was so cute when I was done and had lined it all in batiste - I would never attempt a project that had that many fiddley pieces - WELL DONE!!!!

Beautiful! Be careful about sticking your toe into quilting! Before long you'll find yourself wet up to your knees. Very addictive.

Very nice! You are making me long for hot summer days and cook outs on the porch!!
Reality: 3 feet of snow and 10 degrees out-uggghhh.

I don't think a straight line is important. And Shirley some of the quilt square I've designed have more than a hundred pieces in a 16" square.

You did a fabulous job. It looks like you've been quilting all your life. I love it. I'm a quilter and know how much work went into it.

ah gee ladies....thank you so much...I had fun with this one...
I have always wanted to learn to quilt...so this was a BIG challenge for
me...

I can sew clothes till the cows come home...but that straight
stuff....and having to cut all the shapes...my ...my....teehee...

You do realize that quilting was born of necessity and that the ladies made so many of them, practice makes for perfect. Since you already have the sewing skills down, the rest isn't so hard. Especially when you start turning and twisting pieces in your mind, figuring ways to cut down on little pieces but still look like little pieces.... I am thinking quilting has already sucked you in and now you are like a fish on a hook, struggling to free yourself, but in the end you will be reeled..... At any rate your project is quite lovely and you should be proud....

That is really nice, Ginger. Would take me a month of Sundays just to figure out what fabrics to use.
